| Upcoming gay marriage legislation in NJ |
[Nov. 14th, 2009|01:16 pm] |
From the_sea_lingers: you need more solid proof of the NJ gay marriage legislation? Here is a link you can stand behind if you post on your LJ:
Gay Marriage Advocates Fret* Over Christie Win.
It is not over, Mr. Mach; in fact, it (dun dun dun) HAS JUST BEGUN... and will end by January when fat corrupt gaymarriage-blocking slob moves in.
Onwards! Upwards!
Jeff's note: This one-minute video encapsulates my feelings perfectly. Also, it's a neat short film.
* "Fret"? Really, Montclair Times? I did not fret! I simply wrung my hands a few times, swooned gently, looked heavenwords, and cried, "Oh, gracious golly whillikers!" |

| Tasty food in...Newark, New Jersey |
[Nov. 13th, 2009|01:59 pm] |
So here's my deal.
I'm scared of Newark. I've been scared of Newark since I was 13 and, coming back from a family trip to Florida to which I really thought it was a good idea for me to take both of the guitars I had with me, and my one Warren Zevon t-shirt, and the family went to go eat in Newark, and a bunch of yahoos stole the car for kicks, presumably sold whatever was inside it, then smashed it to bits with hammers.
I don't like me the Newark, which is why I tend not to go to QXT's.
Even though this is a food post, let's address the complexion issue real quick. Is it an issue of race fear? Could be. I'd like to think not, though. I don't think I'm scared of persons of color; if so, Hackensack would be a really bad place to live, as would my building. Plus, I'm more scared of any of the purely-pale RU football-lovers I saw last night, running around drunk in the streets of New Brunswick, than of any of the non-pale people I see when I walk around my adopted hometown here.
But man, I don't like Newark.
But I'm seein' the boy tonight, and we should go eat somewhere. I'd swear he doesn't eat; have you seen how scrawny he is?
So I'm wondering: where's a good place to eat 'round Newark way? Possibly somewhere that compromises between the hey-it's-where-the-rich-folks-park-their-cars-in-expensive-lots-by-the-PAC area and the wow-I-wouldn't-park-here-if-I-were-driving-a-20-year-old-rustbucket-and-it-had-an-angry-rottweiler-friend-of-mine-crouched-on-its-roof? |

| Tools in progress |
[Nov. 13th, 2009|09:37 am] |
Originally published at sk4p.net. You can comment here or there. Altar: Almost done. Been rubbing coats of tung oil on it every couple of days. It takes a while to dry, but it’s worth it!
Pentacle: Just like the altar, almost done. Simply getting coats of oil to protect and beautify. Then, like the other elemental tools, it will be consecrated.
Wand: Getting there. I decided on a nifty and symbolic design for the wand which will merit a post of its own in the near future, or probably paired up with the athame. It’s nearly completed; it, too, has been waiting for tung oil to dry.
Robes: After the wooden tools above are done, I’ll be using the space they’re in now to lay out the fabric and make my white robe. When I decide to do it, it won’t take too long. The black robe will involve buying fabric which I’ve not yet done.
Sword: I have a cheapo-repro sword whose furniture I was considering fixing, but the time/effort at this point seems a bit dubious. May simply purchase a suitable one down the road.
Lamen, lamp, mirror, scrying crystal, staff, stylus: Basically not touched yet.
So, progress! |

Originally published at sk4p.net. You can comment here or there. Athame: I took my Fairbairn-Sykes knife and transformed it. This is going to get a post of its own in the near future. It is nearly done; the last step is just to engrave my sigil upon it and consecrate it.
Bell: Done (in previous post).
Candleholders: Done (as seen here previously).
Censer: Done.
Chalice: Stainless steel wine goblet obtained. Simple and clean. Perfect. Like athame, just needs a sigil inscribed and to be consecrated.
Coins: Got four bronze Chinese coins for Yi Jing divination. Done.
Pen: Got an old-style nib and nib holder with a bottle of ink in which it must be dipped, and began learning to use it competently. Actually used the other day to draw an Abramelin square talisman for a friend. So Pen is done.
Tarot Deck: Done. |

Originally published at sk4p.net. You can comment here or there. Reading the news only makes me angry. I’ve been slacking lately on my choice not to read it and it’s not paying off. I’m very very bad at controlling my temper when I read the latest bit of bigotry in the morning, and it makes me turn into Crowley in Eight Lectures on Yoga (”The Christians to the lions!” “To hell with the church!”) |

| Magic, Power, Humor and Survival: Paganism as an Unfair Advantage in a Very Strange Time |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|08:36 pm] |
...that's the title of my interactive talk at RU Pagans tomorrow. So far, I have a game, a spell to discuss (one isn't supposed to do magic at these meetings, but one can talk about it, some cautionary tales from my mis-spent Pagan youth, and some discussion points.
But I'm looking for more of all of the above -- since they've heard from me twice this semester so far, I should really offer them some perspectives outside of my own.
...and/or maybe a few alumni to bounce things off of, mm? |

| Philadelphia Fetish Flea question |
[Nov. 8th, 2009|09:06 pm] |
Folks, let me ask my previous event-date question with a bit more specificity:
If, in fact, I do end up putting on the Philadelphia version of the Fetish Fair Fleamarket...
...when should I do that?
Not too close to Wicked Faire - so not anytime, at least, in January and February. Not too close to the Steampunk World's Fair - so no May. Not in the July-ish range that is the Midsummer Magick Faire.
When?
...and who'd want to go? |

You anti-abortion people can deny women taxpayer money to help pay for abortions. That’s fine. Your conscience should not be troubled by your taxes supporting a practice you consider morally wrong.
Provided I get a refund check for my share of the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, military aid to certain countries in that part of the world, and all the tax breaks ever given for SUVs. And I could go on.
Oh, what? I don’t get to pick and choose where my tax money goes?
Then neither do you. Keep your damn religions out of women’s health. |
